The Truth Project
Real stories from the mental health system: listening, hearing and campaigning together.
Throughout the mental health system and beyond, people have hugely varied experiences. In a traumatised system, where power is not shared equally, and where people’s voices are not always listened to, it is vital that we bear witness to people’s stories.
Platfform’s Truth Project is our approach to hearing and bearing witness to people’s experiences. We will be looking at different aspects of the mental health system, and more widely, to understand what is happening to people.
From listening, hearing and respecting people’s real stories of the mental health system, we will be able to campaign together for the change we need to see.
We have paused story collection at present, but are continuing to work on raising awareness and calling for change. If you have already sent a story to us, it will have been received and seen by our team. Thank you for your interest in the Truth Project.

The Hidden Harm of the Diagnosis of personality disorder report
For over 35 years, across our projects and services, we have listened to people’s experiences of the mental health system. Time and time again, we’ve heard experiences where the mental health system causes people more harm than help, and stories of people’s human rights not being upheld.

The Truth Project: what it’s for and how it works
Stories received through the Truth Project are first-hand accounts of people’s experiences within the mental health system, shared as unedited as possible. Openness reduces shame, and helps create shared understanding of what needs to change.

Stories from: The diagnosis of personality disorder
The diagnosis of personality disorder doesn’t tell us the full story – or the reasons behind people’s distress.
In these real stories of personality disorder diagnosis from within the medical system, people share their first-hand experiences, their lives after diagnosis, and the stories that the label can’t tell us.
