Mental Health Minister: ‘The Hangout is exactly what young people were asking for.’
The Hangout is exactly what young people have been asking for, Sarah Murphy MS, Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, has recently told the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
The project, which we run in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, is a great example of the ‘sanctuary’ model of open access mental-health support. We know that open-access support is a hugely important part of making sure people can find the help and connections that can prevent their mental health from worsening, and we have been very encouraged to see it form part of the Welsh Government’s strategy for mental health.
A big thank you to the Minister for visiting both our Hangout sites and taking the time to discuss the project with both our service staff and the young people who come to the space. It’s really positive to see Wales’ political leadership engaging so closely with community-focused approaches to mental health.
